Thank you for taking the time to find out more about my class! Below, you will find a digital copy of the syllabus that was sent home on the first day of class, links regarding frequently asked questions, and a list of lab rules and procedures.
Please be aware that my classrooms are active LABS. Students are responsible for the safety and well-being of themselves, others, AND equipment. One of the skills that students will learn with me is the proper care and maintenance of equipment. It is NOT acceptable for students to leave their projects or supplies out. It is NOT acceptable for students to leave the computers a mess. Again, thank you for taking the time to explore my site. If you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to email me using the "Contact" tab to your left.
Do not wear your backpack in the lab!!! This is a room full of expensive and delicate equipment. I have seen students knock over computers and robots while wearing their backpacks. Please carry your backpack by the handle and by your knees when in the LAB.
iPads and cell phones must remain in backpacks until students are instructed to use them.
Students may NOT use desktop computers until given permission.
Treat all people with kindness and respect, even if you are frustrated or in a bad mood.
Treat all equipment with kindness and respect, even if it is not functioning the way you want it to.
Leave the lab in better shape than you found it.
Absolutely no food or drink! (water may be kept in a sealed bottle on the floor, never on the tables)
Use the equipment for its intended purpose only (ie: do not use the computer as a make-up/hair mirror, do not use axels as drumsticks, etc).
Keep fingers off the computer screens: you touch it, you clean it.
You break it, you buy it: students are responsible for the full replacement cost of any equipment broken by them.
Lab Procedures
Entering/Exiting the classroom
Backpacks off while in the room.
Walking only while in the room.
Focus on where you are going; there should be no conversations while entering or leaving the room (that's how accidents happen).
Computer Usage
Do not use without permission (the computers are a privilege, not a right).
Do not save files to the Desktop; use your flash drive or Google Drive account.
Do not move the computers. Moving the computers can damage their cords.
Put the keyboard and mouse under the monitor when you are not using them.
iPad Usage
Do not use iPads without permission (iPads are a privilege, not a right).
Clear all apps immediately and wait for me to check them. There should be no unauthorized applications open during class time.
I will do random app checks throughout class. Use of unauthorized apps (games, email, etc) will result in an immediate lunch detention.
Tool Usage
Students may not use any tools without permission. Ask me; the answer is usually yes.
If using the workshop, follow all posted safety guidelines and work with a spotter.
